A slew of Bimberlys in the Class of 2026?

Apparently we're not the only ones who have discovered the Utah Baby Namer and think that the name Bimberly is pretty funny:

Or how about Chinchilla Zest? Corneliabell? Desdedididawn? I actually kind of like Ozetta. We could call her Ozzy for short.

Here are some suggested by Jack:

Astrolena Simpson
Baxteen Simpson
Gloyd Simpson
K-onna Simpson
Sunday's Hossana Simpson
Violeet Simpson
Vonnie Dee Simpson
Winnter Simpson

Nursery furniture

Here are some shots of the baby's furniture. The light isn't too great, but you can see that most of it is fully assembled (still have to put a few shelves in and add some finishing touches). We think we might also be able to fit a glider/rocker in the room and are looking around for one of those. After looking at these pictures, maybe we should think about painting the walls, too...good thing it takes a while before babies arrive.

some xmas pix

And now for some pictures that don't just feature me (or the cat).

Our friends Scott & Cybele visited on the 24th with 6 month old Oscar. He likes to ride on Daddy's head. This is a pic of him flying (he only looks dangerously close to the ceiling fan...don't worry). Oscar also helped to test out some of the baby's furniture. He loved the changing table and confirmed that it can hold up to at least 20 wriggling pounds.

Jack's sister's cat Ho Ho (named when nephew Benjamin was 5 and would not be dissuaded from his suggestion of "How 'bout Ho Ho?" when asked for his input on names) meets Solana's new toy dog (named Riley after her best friend). Benjamin picked out the Riley toy and it was definitely Solana's favorite of the day.

At our place later on xmas, the cousins enjoyed a game of Candyland. Solana won and Benjamin was impressed.

Six months

This picture is a little blurry, but there is a bump evident. I hit the six month mark yesterday. I'm standing in front of our jade tree which we've hung with lights in lieu of an xmas tree. We just got back from Jack's work party. Always a nice affair. This year I didn't hit the open bar, except to get some bubbly water.*

*Bubbly water is also my three-year-old niece's favorite drink.

Nursery by Ikea

Today we got a Sniglar crib from Ikea and a few other nursery items. The Trofast changing table (see below) will convert to a dresser someday by just taking the top part off. The red doors go in front and there is shelving, too. Not pictured is a tall Trofast shelf with red drawers--this should come in handy to store stuff. We also got a cute mobile and a couple of bright rugs. Someday we'll post pictures of what it all looks like in "real" life.

We'll probably spend much of this weekend assembling our semi-disposable Swedish furniture, but you can't beat the price, considering that we got everything today (including lamps, some toys and other knickknacks that you just can't seem to escape Ikea without buying) for less than what some higher-end cribs cost. And as the Baby Bargains* book says, the $100 crib has to pass the same safety standards as that $700 crib.

*Thanks for sending this to us, Suzy! It has been a very useful reference tool!

Starting to show

I'll admit that I'm sticking my gut out a little in this picture, plus the horizontal stripes probably emphasize the bump (not to mention I'm not exactly Olive Oyl in my natural state), but this is the first picture we have that shows any indication of what is to come. It was taken over by the Lincoln Park Zoo a couple of weeks ago when I was hitting the 5 month mark. I'm looking forward to (hopefully) getting seats on the bus soon.

Zeeb: Before the news
