A Clearwater New Year

We spent Josie's first New Year's Eve down in Clearwater, Florida (near Tampa) with Jack's parents, my mom and her friend and Jack's sisters and their families (and lots and lots of Iowa and South Carolina fans who were down there for the Outback Bowl). We got an internet deal on a hotel that was right on the beach...very nice to escape "the Hawk" (Chicago's wind), if only for a few days.

This is a shot of one of the many, many high rise condos that line the causeways everywhere. There are many that are just empty, but the guy that drove us to the airport this morning said that people like Julia Roberts and John Travolta spend a few days down there during the year. Then again, he also told us that he was best friends with one of the founding members of the rock group Chicago.

This is a shot of the beach from the pool area by the hotel. In the distance you can see a pirate ship lit up. If you hang a left at the beach, you can walk south along the Gulf of Mexico for 14 miles.
